Being known to the engines and being the source they use are two different things. In footwear, END. was named in 12 of 90 answers and recommended in 8, and not one of those answers cited endclothing.com. Loake was named in 29 and its own site was cited in 21 (Geoffy Sector Benchmark, 14 September 2026).

How we ran it
- 10 buying questions per sector, written the way a UK buyer asks them.
- 3 engines through their APIs: Perplexity, OpenAI with web search and Gemini with grounding.
- Every question asked 3 times on every engine, from the UK, on 14 September 2026: 90 answers per sector.
- The brand list for each sector was fixed before the benchmark and not changed after it.
- We count, for each brand, the answers that name it, recommend it, make it the top pick, and cite its own site.

Sector Benchmark: questions
How the benchmark works, and what you can do with it.
How did you choose the brands?
We fixed the list of brands and retailers for each sector before the benchmark and did not change it after. The brands the engines recommended that are not on a list are named on each sector page.
Did any brand pay?
No. Geoffy ran this benchmark, and no brand paid to be included or excluded. Where a brand in a table is a Geoffy customer, it is shown with its real numbers and is not treated differently in the text.
Can I use the data?
Yes. Quote the numbers with credit to the Geoffy Sector Benchmark and its date, 14 September 2026. The full method and raw answers are available on request.
How often do you re-run it?
Every quarter. Each new benchmark replaces the numbers on the same pages, and the date on every page changes with it.
Why these three engines?
Perplexity, OpenAI with web search and Gemini with grounding all fetch the live web to answer, and each can be asked through an API in the same way every time, so the answers can be repeated and compared. Geoffy's weekly AI test in the product also asks Claude.
