Benchmark run 14 September 2026, UK

The brand owns the product. You can own the comparison. Right now a 2024 listicle owns both.

The questions buyers ask

A multi-brand retailer does not get asked "is Stone Island good". It gets asked where to buy it, who has it in stock, and which shop is best for what.

"Where is the best place to buy Stone Island in the UK online, with genuine stock?"

"END. vs Sevenstore vs Peggs & Son: which is the best UK retailer for streetwear?"

"Which UK retailers stock Adidas Samba in stock now?"

"Barbour vs Belstaff wax jacket: which is better, and where is the cheapest UK retailer?"

"What are the best independent menswear shops in the UK that sell online?"

What the engines answer today

Ask Google AI Mode to compare END., Sevenstore and Peggs & Son and it has a view:

"For sheer scale and high-heat sneaker drops, END. Clothing is the definitive winner, while SEVENSTORE excels in progressive, youth-culture fashion, and Peggs & Son caters to a more mature, heritage-focused aesthetic."

Google AI Mode, 14 September 2026

It also has a caveat for END.:

"some buyers feel the shopping experience lacks a personal, independent touch."

Google AI Mode, 14 September 2026

Sevenstore's own homepage and Instagram were cited. Peggs & Son was described from GQ and SL.Man.

Ask for the best independent menswear shops that sell online and the two surfaces disagree almost completely. Google named Goodhood, Stuarts London, The Hambledon, Canopy, Urban Industry and Union. Perplexity restated one FashionBeans article, 20 shops long, and recommended oipolloi.com, which is a password page, and aphrodite1994.com, which redirects to Flannels. Of the 16 retailers in our benchmark, Google named one and Perplexity named two.

Across the 90 benchmark answers, END. was recommended in 50 and its own site cited in 34. Selfridges and Harrods, which we did not list, were named in 25 and 17. Reddit was cited 32 times.

Ask Google AI Mode to compare END., Sevenstore and Peggs & Son and the difference is visible in the sources. For Sevenstore, Google had a first-party positioning statement to cite: its homepage, plus its Instagram. For Peggs & Son, the description came from a 2024 SL.Man article and GQ. Same question, same day. In the 90 benchmark answers, END. was named in 58 and its own site cited in 34. Peggs & Son was named in 18 and cited in 9. Being known by AI and being the source AI uses to explain the recommendation are two different things.

Why multi-brand retail pages fail the engines

A product page on a multi-brand site repeats the brand's copy. The engine already has the brand's copy, from the brand. What it does not have, on most of the sites we sampled, is the comparison, the stock answer and the reason to buy from you.

Of the 16 domains, 4 refused our crawler entirely. Of the rest, Mainline Menswear's sampled product pages had Product schema on 93% and ratings on 87%, with a median of 11 words of text. Sevenstore's had schema on 73% and a median of 148 words. END. blocks GPTBot, PerplexityBot and OAI-SearchBot outright, and still wins, because Esquire, GQ and Trustpilot carry it.

So the engine reads about you, not from you. And for "independent", it reads a list written two years ago.

Method note: the 90 benchmark answers come from 10 buying questions asked of 3 engines through their APIs (Perplexity, OpenAI with web search, Gemini with grounding), 3 times each, on 14 September 2026 from the UK. The quoted answers above come from the consumer apps (Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity) on the same day and are not counted in the table. Answers move from day to day. A brand named in a question ("Loake vs Cheaney vs Crockett & Jones") is counted in every answer to that question, so read Loake, Cheaney and Crockett & Jones with that in mind.

END., Sevenstore and Peggs & Son are named in one question. Unprompted, END. is named in 46 of 72 answers. Not in the table but recommended by the engines: Selfridges, Harrods, Footpatrol, Urban Industry, Goodhood.

Disclosure: Geoffy ran this benchmark. The brand lists were fixed before the run and not changed after it. No brand paid to be included or excluded. Where a brand in a table is a Geoffy customer, it is shown with its real numbers and is not treated differently in the text. Full method and raw answers on request.

Where Geoffy fits for multi-brand retailers

Give AI a reason to recommend your shop, not just the brands you stock.

Geoffy turns the facts buried across your catalogue into first-party evidence that AI engines can read and cite: what you stock, what is in, and why your shop. For a multi-brand retailer that means:

  • Comparison pages the engines can cite: "Barbour vs Belstaff", "Samba vs Gazelle", built from your catalogue data, on your domain.
  • Stock and availability as data per product and size, so "in stock now" gets your page.
  • Brand pages that state what you carry and since when, in text the engine reads as fact.
  • Positioning stated on your own site: independent, since 2000, Brighton. The engines quoted Sevenstore's homepage for exactly this and quoted a magazine for Peggs & Son.
  • Schema across the catalogue without a week of developer time per build.
