Benchmark run 14 September 2026, UK

Three AI engines, one question about cast aluminium furniture, three different winners. The answer changed with the evidence each engine found.

The questions buyers ask

Garden furniture is a considered purchase with a short season. Buyers ask AI about material, weather, size and guarantee, and they ask by name.

"Which UK brand makes the best cast aluminium garden furniture for a small patio?"

"Cast aluminium vs rattan vs teak: which is best for the UK climate?"

"Which garden furniture brands in the UK offer a ten year guarantee?"

"What size garden table do I need for six people, and which UK brands sell one?"

"Is Lazy Susan garden furniture good quality? What do reviews say?"

What the engines answer today

We asked the cast aluminium question on Google AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT within 25 minutes of each other on 14 September 2026.

Google AI Mode:

"UK experts and buyers widely recommend Lazy Susan as the best dedicated specialist for compact, weather-proof bistro sets."

Google AI Mode, 14 September 2026

Its source was a Lazy Susan blog post from March 2026.

Perplexity, same question, filed Lazy Susan with Charles Bentley as

"Budget-friendly cast aluminium bistro options that appear in 'best of' lists, but generally don't match Hartman's long-term reputation for quality and design coherence."

Perplexity, 14 September 2026

Its source was a Scotsman listicle. Hartman won, from retailer pages.

ChatGPT, same question:

"I'd put Hartman at the top of the UK market for a small patio."

ChatGPT, 14 September 2026

Lazy Susan was not named.

One question, one day, three answers. The sources each engine surfaced were different, and the recommendations followed them. Which brands appear for the guarantee question? The ones with a guarantee page that says "10 years" in text: Bridgman, Katie Blake, Alexander Rose, Harbour Lifestyle, Chic Teak. Perplexity used Bramblecrest's own site against it:

"its current official information says guarantees generally range up to five years, so it should not be treated as a current 10-year option".

Perplexity, 14 September 2026

Barlow Tyrie's ten year guarantee reached Perplexity through a retailer in Atlanta, not through teak.com.

In the 90 benchmark answers, lazysusanfurniture.co.uk was cited in 29, the highest in the sector, with 86 citations in total. But Lazy Susan was named in only 14 of those 90 answers. So in 15 answers the engines used its pages to explain cast aluminium, winter care and material choice, and did not name the brand. On Perplexity the same day, the line that filed it as "budget" cited a Scotsman listicle, not a Lazy Susan page. The evidence is on the brand's pages. Whether the brand gets the credit depends on which page the engine finds.

Why garden furniture pages fail the engines

The buying facts are material, dimensions, seating count, weight, finish, guarantee term and whether it can stay out in winter. Across the domains we sampled, those facts sit in a tab, a PDF or a lifestyle photo more often than in structured product data.

Of 20 domains, 6 refused every request from our crawler, so we could not read them at all. On 4 more we found no product sitemap. Of the 10 where we could sample product pages, 8 had no Product schema on any sampled page: Bramblecrest, Barlow Tyrie, Maze, Oxley's, Cox & Cox, Rowlinson, VonHaus and 4 Seasons Outdoor. And Oxley's own site was still cited in 25 of the 90 benchmark answers, second only to Lazy Susan. The pages the engines cited most are its homepage and its "what we do" page, which state the lifetime structural warranty in plain text. Text the engine can read gets cited. Schema it can also read is the next step.

So the guarantee is on the page as a badge, and the engine cites a garden centre's copy of it instead.

Method note: the 90 benchmark answers come from 10 buying questions asked of 3 engines through their APIs (Perplexity, OpenAI with web search, Gemini with grounding), 3 times each, on 14 September 2026 from the UK. The quoted answers above come from the consumer apps (Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity) on the same day and are not counted in the table. Answers move from day to day. A brand named in a question ("Loake vs Cheaney vs Crockett & Jones") is counted in every answer to that question, so read Loake, Cheaney and Crockett & Jones with that in mind.

Bramblecrest, Hartman and Kettler are named in one question, and Lazy Susan in another, so their "named" counts include those answers. Unprompted, Lazy Susan is named in 6 of 81 answers. Own site cited can exceed named: an answer can cite a brand's page without naming the brand. Brands the engines recommended that are not in the table: Habitat, British Recycled Plastic, Chic Teak, Katie Blake, Royalcraft, LifestyleGarden.

Disclosure: Geoffy ran this benchmark. The brand lists were fixed before the run and not changed after it. No brand paid to be included or excluded. Where a brand in a table is a Geoffy customer, it is shown with its real numbers and is not treated differently in the text. Full method and raw answers on request.

Where Geoffy fits for garden furniture

Give AI the material, dimensions, guarantees and product facts it needs to recommend your furniture.

Geoffy turns the facts buried across your catalogue into first-party product evidence that AI engines can read and cite. For garden furniture that means:

  • Material as data: sand cast aluminium, extruded aluminium, teak grade, rattan type, with the distinction the engines already draw between cast and extruded.
  • Dimensions, seating count and weight per product, so "a table for six on a 3m patio" gets answered with your product.
  • Guarantee term per product, in plain text and in schema, on the product page and on a guarantee page.
  • Winter and weather statements as facts, not adjectives: "can stay outside all year", "cover recommended".
  • A grounding file per product that an engine reads before it reads the garden centre.

Ask the engines about your garden furniture before your customers do. Free check, ten questions, results in a day.
